Reports: Broncos lose CB Harris to torn ACL

DENVER -- Denver’s 24-17 divisional playoff victory over San Diego came with a hefty price.

The Broncos lost starting left cornerback Chris Harris to a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to multiple reports.

Harris underwent an MRI on Monday and will not play Sunday in the AFC championship against New England, or in the Super Bowl, if the Broncos get that far.

On Monday morning, Harris tweeted: “Thanks for the prayers , Gonna work extremely hard and come back a Monster next year . God is on my side. #broncosup”

The injury occurred with 8 minutes, 17 seconds remaining in the third quarter, when Harris was in coverage away from the ball. San Diego’s Philip Rivers completed a 19-yard pass to Keenan Allen along the Chargers sideline. Harris was covering his man on the other side of the field and limped off after the play, not to return.

With Harris out, the Chargers got hot in the fourth quarter, scoring all of their 17 points on two touchdown receptions by Allen and a field goal. The Broncos were able to control the clock down the stretch, however, and hang on for the victory.

Not having Harris figures to be a significant setback for the Broncos when facing Tom Brady and the Patriots.
