Baseball: Daniel Rocha leads Narbonne to tourney title in South Carolina
Harbor City Narbonne didn’t just travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a vacation. The Gauchos made it a successful business trip, winning the Mingle Bay Tournament championship behind tournament MVP Daniel Rocha.
Rocha hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning and picked up a save in Narbonne’s 4-2 win over Virginia James Madison by retiring the final batter.
Bryan Correa threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Narbonne is 14-4.
In an Orange County showdown, Foothill defeated Villa Park, 5-0. Soren Yarnall threw a five-hitter, striking out eight and walking none. Dylan Doherty had two hits.
In the Pacific League, Danny Bustos struck out six and walked none in Burroughs’ 4-1 win over Glendale. Brian Gadsby pitched Crescenta Valley past Pasadena, 4-0. Gadsby struck out eight, walked one and allowed two hits. Adrian Damla had three hits and two RBI. Burbank defeated Arcadia, 6-4. Alex Minnick had three hits.
Arlington defeated Temescal Canyon, 4-3, in eight innings in a game that could result in suspensions after a post-game handshake confrontation, according to the Riverside Press-Telegram. Matt Tomazin had four hits for Temescal Canyon. Chris Barragan had the game-winning two-run single.
Etiwanda improved to 10-2 after pulling out a 9-8 win over Rancho Cucamonga. It was the Eagles’ sixth consecutive win.
