Football: The Miracle on Smyth Drive

6-3, 230-pound senior from Valencia tries to secure future

Years ago, Larry Muir was a freshman at Alemany High when the Warriors’ season was called the “Miracle on Rinaldi Street.”

After Valencia won the Foothill League title on Friday night, overcoming a 27-0 deficit to defeat Hart, 28-27, Muir, the head coach, called it the “Miracle on Smyth Drive.”

Muir called the win the best in his 19 years of coaching and said Jay Jay Wilson, the senior receiver-defensive back, turned in “one of the most unbelievable individual performances I’ve ever seen.”

Wilson scored all four Valencia touchdowns and had the game-saving interception in the fourth quarter.

“He made some plays that took over the game,” Muir said.
