Softball has begun in the City Section, and Carson and El Camino Real are considered the favorites in Division I.

I asked longtime Lincoln Coach Mark Shapiro to offer his list of players to watch for this season.

Certainly things start with the Carson trio of shortstop Danica Justis, third baseman Aniesa Maulupe and pitcher Alissa Cienfuegos.

Other impact players:

Junior third baseman Leslie Arreola, Poly; senior shortstop Summer Bodkin, Banning; senior shortstop Mabel Calderon, Chavez; junior outfielder Sarah Cooper, Granada Hills; junior pitcher Analise De La Roca, POLA; junior pitcher Carmen Angulo, HTPA; senior pitcher Morgan Ebow, El Camino Real; senior shortstop Carley Gaskill, El Camino Real; senior pitcher Kyla Gendler, Chatsworth; sophomore infielder Madi Gilmore, El Camino Real.

Senior pitcher Leah Gonzalez, Banning; senior pitcher Ieleen Guardido, South East; junior outfielder Julyssa Hernandez, San Fernando; senior catcher Lauren Jimenez, Granada Hills; sophomore first baseman Bianca Larios, Kennedy; sophomore pitcher Vivian Little, Poly; junior infielder Danina Marton, Cleveland; sophomore pitcher Victoria Raygoza, Venice; junior infielder Cindy Robles, San Pedro; sophomore outfielder Ruby Salzman, Chatsworth; senior pitcher Stephanie Valencia, Lincoln.
