A guide to every current and former major Southland sports venue
Do you want to win a bet? Find someone under age 40 and bet that you can take him to the site of Wrigley Field without setting foot in Chicago. Then go to the corner of 42nd Place and Avalon Boulevard and show him the commemorative plaque that marks the location of L.A.’s Wrigley Field, the first home of the Angels.
Wrigley Field in Los Angeles was built in 1925 and was home to the Los Angeles Angels and Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League, and was the first home of the current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who played there in 1961.
Southland sports venues: Your ultimate guide
Of course, you don’t have to take our word for it. You can go there yourself, or you can read about it in The Times’ new Southland sports venues guide, our new interactive graphic that shows the location of every major sports venue in L.A. and Orange County.
Not only will you read about current venues, such as Dodger Stadium and Staples Center, you will also see venues that no longer exist, such as Wrigley Field and Ascot Park. Race tracks, stadiums, arenas, drag strips, it’s all in the guide. You will be able to look at a locator map for each venue, along with driving directions and a brief history of each site.
