Washington’s Stephen Strasburg goes on 15-day DL with strained oblique
The Washington Nationals placed pitcher Stephen Strasburg back on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, this time because of a strained left oblique.
Strasburg left his start Saturday after 3 2/3 scoreless innings because of tightness in his left side.

Seattle Mariners Manager Lloyd McClendon will miss his team’s upcoming three-game series against the Detroit Tigers to attend a funeral for his sister. Bench coach Trent Jewett will assume the managerial duties. . . . Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Starling Marte left Sunday’s game because of discomfort in his left side while batting in the fourth inning. . . . The Miami Marlins optioned right-hander Jarred Cosart to triple-A New Orleans. . . . The Philadelphia Phillies acquired the No. 1 overall international signing slot for the 2015-16 signing period in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, which received minor league pitchers Chris Oliver and Josh Taylor plus the No. 9 overall signing slot. . . . The St. Louis Cardinals placed left-hander Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, because of a groin strain.
