No. 16 Baylor routs Hardin-Simmons, 104-59, in game at Fort Hood

Johnathan Motley scored 23 points to lead five Baylor players in double figures and the No. 16 Bears beat Hardin-Simmons, 104-59, on Wednesday night in the first regular-season college basketball game played at Fort Hood, Texas, one of the nation’s largest Army posts.

Rico Gathers had 20 points while Al Freeman scored 12, and Taurean Prince and Jake Lindsey each had 11 for the Bears (8-1). Prince also had 10 rebounds, while Lester Medford had a career-high 13 assists.

Cameron Barnes had 11 points for Division III Hardin-Simmons (6-5).

Fort Hood covers 340 square miles, with more than 40,000 soldiers living on the post about an hour from the Baylor campus in Waco. The game was closed to the general public, but 1,600 free tickets were distributed to soldiers and their families to attend the game at Abrams Field House on the post.

at No. 11 North Carolina 96, Tulane 72: Brice Johnson had a career-high 25 points and 10 rebounds and the Tar Heels (8-2) bounced back from a last-second loss at Texas that knocked them out of the top 10. Marcus Paige added 16 points and Justin Jackson had 13. North Carolina plays UCLA on Saturday in New York.

No. 18 Southern Methodist 86, Nicholls State 42: Ben Moore had 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Mustangs (8-0), who scored the first 12 points of the game.

at No. 19 Louisville 94, Kennesaw State 57: Damion Lee scored 18 points and the Cardinals (8-1) shot 59%, the eighth time in nine games they’ve made more than half their shots.

at Utah 99, Savannah State 53: Kyle Kuzma scored 18 points and the Utes (8-2) used a 26-0 first-half run to extend their non-conference home winning streak to 26 games.
