Ryan Getzlaf’s ankle injury is deemed not serious

The Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf was ruled “day to day” Tuesday after an MRI exam on his sprained left ankle revealed “no significant ligament or muscle tears,” the team announced.

The news calmed fears Getzlaf would be unable to play for Canada in the Olympics, a concern that caused a flood of Canadian media requests to the Ducks on Tuesday.

Getzlaf, the Ducks’ leading scorer and the likely second-line center for Canada, said Tuesday morning he was “scared” after the injury occurred Monday night in the second period when he tangled with Dustin Brown of the Kings and fell.

Getzlaf left the Honda Center wearing a boot and on crutches.

“My ankle feels much better today and I’m relieved the test showed no significant damage,” Getzlaf said in a statement issued by the team after the MRI exam.

“My goal is to return to the ice this week for the Ducks, and I look forward to joining Team Canada for the Olympics on Monday.”

The Ducks have three games remaining before the Olympic break -- Wednesday against Edmonton, Saturday at Calgary and Sunday at Edmonton.
