Kings face three non-playoff teams in the final week, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy

From a tour of possible playoff opponents to one against the lottery-bound minnows.

If the Kings weren’t cognizant of the threat posed by the league’s lesser lights heading into the final week of the regular season, two fairly recent results should serve as an apt reminder.

Friday: Vancouver 3, Anaheim 2.

March 24: Winnipeg 4, Los Angeles 1.

The Kings play at Vancouver on Monday and their regular-season finale is Saturday against the Jets at Staples Center. In between are games at Calgary on Tuesday and at home Thursday against the Ducks.

They’ve lost their last four games on the road and have stumbled in the third period, of late. Last Monday at San Jose, the Kings allowed three unanswered goals in the third period and lost, 5-2. On Saturday, Dallas scored twice in the third period to secure its 3-2 comeback victory.

Still, the Kings have scoring concerns beyond the third period.

“We’re just not capitalizing on our chances when we have them,” said winger Tyler Toffoli, who assisted on Jeff Carter’s second-period goal that gave the Kings their 2-1 lead against the Stars. “Not even in the third period, but just throughout the game when we have the chance to put the teams in a deep hole. We’re not putting them away.

“They’re sticking around and scoring on their chances.”

Gravel returns

Rookie defenseman Kevin Gravel, who impressed many in the Kings’ hockey operations department during his first four-game stint in February, is back for round two.

The Kings on Sunday recalled Gravel from their American Hockey League affiliate in Ontario (Calif.), presumably for extra insurance. This sort of depth move is common at this time of the season, especially if there are potential issues, even small ones, with the defense corps.

Gravel has recorded seven goals and 20 points and is a plus-four in 44 games with the Reign this season
