Clippers rout Lakers from start to finish, 106-78

The Clippers blew out the Lakers on Sunday, using their defense and play-making ability for a 106-78 victory at Staples Center.

Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 18 points while DeAndre Jordan notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Chris Paul was truly the star for the Clippers despite scoring only seven points. He had 15 assists while helping to hold the Lakers’ Jordan Clarkson to just two points and three assists.

Wesley Johnson led the Lakers with 16 points while Tarik Black was the only other Laker in double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Lakers shot only 38.7% from the field and committed 19 turnovers. The Clippers shot 53.3% and had 10 miscues.

Matt Barnes added 14 points for the Clippers, while J.J. Redick had 12, Hedo Turkoglu 12 and Austin Rivers 10.

The Lakers lost every quarter, scoring only 16 points in the first and 18 in the third quarters.

The Clippers shot 55.6% (15 of 27) from three-point range while the Lakers converted 41.2% (7 of 17) from long range.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 20-56. They’ll visit the Clippers (52-26) on Tuesday at Staples Center.

Clippers 83, Lakers 54 (end of third quarter)

Chris Paul has only seven points but his playmaking helped the Clippers extend their lead over the Lakers to 29 points.

Paul has 15 assists and only one turnover in 27 minutes for the Clippers, who are shooting 55.4% from the field and 55.6% (10 of 18) from three-point range.

Wesley Johnson has 14 points while Tarik Black has 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers, who are shooting 34.9% from the field.

DeAndre Jordan has a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but he’s struggled from the free-throw line with six misses in eight tries. Blake Griffin has 18 points.

Jordan Clarkson is having a difficult time, with only two points and three assists. He has two turnovers. The Lakers have 16 miscues to the Clippers’ seven.

Clippers 49, Lakers 36 (halftime)

The Clippers extended their lead to as many as 17 points in the second quarter before heading to the half with a 13-point advantage.

The Lakers, who are shooting only 35% from the field, have been led by Wesley Johnson with nine points and Carlos Boozer with seven.

Blake Griffin has 12 points for the Clippers, who are shooting 50% from the field and 45.5% (5 of 11) from three-point range. Matt Barnes has 11 points.

The Lakers are shooting 3 of 10 from behind the arc and have committed 11 turnovers. The Clippers have just five miscues.

Starting guards Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson combined to score four points with only two assists and are a combined one of nine shooting (11.1%).

In 18 minutes, Chris Paul has nine assists.

Clippers 23, Lakers 16 (end of first quarter)

The Lakers struggled on offense in the first quarter against the Clippers.

Carlos Boozer, Wesley Johnson and Tarik Black each had four points to lead the Lakers, who are shooting 38.1% from the field and miseed all six three-point attempts and two free throws.

Meanwhile, the Clippers are shooting 45% and have been led by Blake Griffin with 10 points.

The Clippers led for the entire period, climbing ahead by as many as 10 points.

Jordan Clarkson and Jeremy Lin went scoreless, both missing two shots without dishing an assist.

Pregame

The Lakers (20-55) host the Clippers (51-26) on Sunday night at Staples Center.

The Clippers are just 1 1/2 games behind the second-place Houston Rockets (52-24) in the Western Conference.

Wayne Ellington (shoulder), Nick Young (knee) Ronnie Price (elbow), Kobe Bryant (shoulder) and Julius Randle (knee) are all out for the remainder of the season.

Jamal Crawford (calf) is doubtful for the Clippers.
