Report: Gary Kubiak cleared to go home, likely won’t coach next game

Texans Coach Gary Kubiak has been cleared to leave a Houston hospital more than 24 hours after collapsing during halftime of his team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.

But everything won’t be returning back to normal just yet for the Texans, according to the report.

Kubiak, 52, is said to have suffered a mini-stroke, called a transient ischemic attack, and is not expected to coach the team in its next game, Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Chronicle calls TIA a warning stroke, which “occurs when blood clots briefly block an artery and interrupt blood flow to part of the brain.”

The report says Kubiak should be back with the Texans next week.

In the meantime, defensive coordinator and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is expected to serve as interim coach, the same role he filled during the second half of Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Colts.

[Updated at 10:36 a.m.: Kubiak has been released from the hospital. According to the Texans, he will be out indefinitely. The coach said in a statement: “I’ve been through an ordeal and my focus now is to get back to good health.”]
