Jon Embree, the UCLA assistant head coach and tight end coach, has interviewed for the coaching job at Colorado to replace Gary Barnett.

“I appreciate the opportunity to interview at Colorado,” said Embree, who talked Sunday with Mike Bohn, the school’s athletic director.

“I hope something good comes from it.”

Embree has coached at UCLA the last three years, playing a key role in the development of Marcedes Lewis -- the John Mackey Award winner this season as the nation’s top tight end -- and the Bruin offense, ranked seventh in the nation in scoring (38.09 points per game) and 24th in yards per game (429).

Embree, who attended Cherry Creek High in Denver, was a standout tight end at Colorado in the mid-1980s and, after a short NFL career, returned to coach tight ends, defensive ends and receivers at Colorado from 1993 to 2002.
