Update: Chivas USA can deny Seattle a chance at history Wednesday in the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. No team in the tournament’s 99-year history has won four consecutive titles, but Seattle, a three-time defending champion, will have an opportunity to do that if it can win. And the Sounders already have a bit of history on their side, having knocked Chivas out of this tournament in 2007, 2008 and 2010. Despite its season-long scoring problems, Chivas has lost just once in its last eight MLS games thanks in large part to goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who hasn’t given up a goal in his last 228 minutes. And it is unbeaten in the U.S. Open Cup, with wins over the Ventura County Fusion, Carolina Railhawks and Charlotte Eagles. The winner of this game will meet the winner of the Philadelphia Union-Sporting Kansas City semifinal. The championship game is next month.
