Update -- Chivas USA makes its U.S. Open Cup debut in the third round against the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League’ second division. The Eagles opened the tournament in the second round with a 4-1 victory over the El Paso Patriots in Texas on June 29 and are led by forwards Dustin Swinehart (10 goals), Jacob Coggins (eight goals) and goalkeeper Chris McClellan (0.87 goals-against average). In USL play, third-place Charlotte has scored 30 goals and given up 13. Chivas is coming off a feel-good 5-1 win over fellow Major League Soccer expansion club Real Salt Lake and midfielder Hector Cuadros leads Chivas with four goals and four assists. Forward Thiago Martins has three goals. Rookie goalkeeper Brad Guzan has a 1.93 GAA. The winner next plays host to the Galaxy on Aug. 3.
