Update -- Columbus beat Kansas City, 2-1, on Wednesday for its first win since April 28. The Galaxy defeated lowly Real Salt Lake, 3-2, on Sunday to break a six-game winless skid of its own. “We just faced a team that was desperate to win, as well. These games are never easy,” Galaxy Coach Frank Yallop said. Columbus will play without Jacob Thomas, Andy Herron and Ricardo Virtuoso, who are injured and Frankie Hejduk, Tim Ward, Robbie Rogers and Danny Szetela will miss the game because of national team call-ups. The Galaxy will be without Chris Albright and Alan Gordon, who are sidelined because of injuries, and Landon Donovan, who is with the American squad for the Gold Cup final. Kevin Harmse and Ante Jazic returned to the Galaxy after playing for Canada in the Gold Cup, but Jazic probably will not play. Alexi Lalas, the Galaxy’s general manager, and former midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos are two of 19 former Galaxy players and 10 guests scheduled to participate in a 60-minute alumni game, which begins at 5:15.
