Angels rally against Giants closer Sergio Romo for tie

The Angels have one last chance to avoid a winless February. They must beat the Dodgers on Thursday, with Clayton Kershaw waiting to greet them.

The Angels rallied against San Francisco Giants closer Sergio Romo for two runs in the ninth inning on Wednesday, resulting in an 8-8 tie. An Angels cast of minor leaguers scored twice in each of the final three innings against three of the Giants’ best relievers: Santiago Casilla, Jose Mijares and Romo.

In six games this spring, the Angels have lost four, tied two and won none.

Third baseman Kaleb Cowart, the Angels’ top prospect, doubled home a run against Romo in the ninth. Non-roster outfielder J.B. Shuck singled home the tying run.

Cowart and second-base prospect Taylor Lindsey each had two hits for the Angels, who erased a 7-2 deficit.

“It’s a good test for our kids,” Manager Mike Scioscia said.

Mike Trout, the lone regular in the starting lineup, singled and walked in three plate appearances. He has a .667 on-base percentage through two games this spring.
