Alabama, Oregon remain on top in latest college football polls

Alabama and Oregon remained on top in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches’ polls in advance of Sunday’s later release of the first Bowl Championship Series standings.

Alabama and Oregon are No. 1 and No. 2 in the AP poll, followed by Florida, Kansas State and Notre Dame. The second five are Louisiana State, Ohio State, Oregon State, South Carolina and Oklahoma.

USC, a 24-14 winner at Washington, stayed at No. 11.

The USA Today poll has Kansas State at No. 3, followed by Florida and Notre Dame, The second five teams are led by LSU, followed by Oklahoma, South Carolina, USC and Florida State. Oregon State moved up three spots in the coaches’ poll to No. 11.

The only change in the top two was Alabama picking up Oregon’s lone No. 1 vote, making the Crimson Tide a unanimous No. 1 in both indexes. Oregon had a bye this weekend and will play at Arizona State on Thursday.

The first BCS standings will be released today at approximately 5:30 Pacific time. The top two schools in the final standings in December will play for this year’s national title in South Florida.
