Who will win the Home Run Derby? [Poll]

This year’s Home Run Derby features a pair of former winners and one of the two players tied for most home runs in the majors — not to mention both a Dodger and an Angel.

The American League looks particularly stacked for the annual competition that takes place Monday night in Kansas City, with a lineup that features Mark Trumbo of the Angels, Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees, Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers and Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bautista has 27 home runs this season, tied with Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers for the best in the league. Cano, who has 20 home runs this year, is the reigning Derby champion. Fielder, who has 15 homers this season, won the competition in 2009.

Trumbo is tied for sixth in the AL with 22 home runs.

The National League lineup features Matt Kemp of the Dodgers, Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies, Carlos Beltran of the St. Louis Cardinals and Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Kemp is the only one of the four with any Derby experience — although it’s an experience he probably wants to forget, with just two homers in last year’s event. He has just 12 home runs this year, but was on a tear early in the season before being slowed by a hamstring injury that has kept him on the disabled list since May 30.

Beltran is second in the NL with 20 home runs (Ryan Braun leads the NL with 24 but is not taking part), while McCutchen has 18 and Gonzalez 17.
