Matthew Stafford reportedly has hamstring injury, status unknown

Matthew Stafford’s playing status is up in the air for the Detroit Lions’ game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

That’s all we know about the Lions’ starting quarterback following Coach Jim Schwartz’s meeting with the press Monday -- which is basically what we already knew before Schwartz’s comments.

“I don’t have any comment on how anything went with him,” Schwartz said of Stafford, who was scheduled to have an MRI after straining a muscle in his right leg during the Lions’ 44-41 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. “He wasn’t able to finish the game; Shaun Hill came in and finished the game for us, and we’ll see how [Stafford] progresses through this week.”

Stafford passed for 278 yards and a touchdown before injuring himself while chasing Tennessee’s Alterraun Verner on a 72-yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown.

Hill came in and threw for 172 yards, including two touchdowns in the final 18 seconds to force overtime. But he was stopped short on fourth-and-1 at the Tennessee 7 to end the game during the extra period.

Stafford later said he strained either a hamstring or a glute. NBC Sports’ Mike Florio is reporting that a league source told him it’s a hamstring issue. Of course, Schwartz had nothing to say about the matter Monday.

When pressed further about Stafford’s availability for Sunday’s game, Schwartz said: “We’ll see how the week goes and then Friday, we’ll make a determination what that availability is. Same as every team does.”
