NFL power rankings: Brian Urlacher and the Bears move up to No. 2
If it’s Tuesday, it must be time for another edition of The Times’ NFL power rankings, which features only one new team in the top 10 but a lot of shuffling among the top 10.
The Atlanta Falcons, who were idle, remain at No. 1 as the NFL’s only undefeated team. As Lance Pugmire writes, “Had bye week before forcing the 1972 Miami Dolphins to gather and see if unbeaten streak can survive trip to Eagles.”
There is a new No. 2 however, as the Chicago Bears moved up one spot after their 13-7 victory over Detroit on Monday night. The Bears have given up a league-low 78 points this season.
The New York Giants move up to No. 3 after they rallied to beat the Washington Redskins, 27-23.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10: No. 4 Houston, San Francisco, Green Bay, Denver, Baltimore, New England and Minnesota.
The Vikings moved into the top 10, as Pugmire writes, “RB Adrian Peterson makes strongest case yet (153 yards) he’s back to full health, seven sacks good omen with visiting Buccaneers up Thursday.”
Dropping out of the top 10 were the Seattle Seahawks, who tumbled from six to 11 after their loss to San Francisco.
Bringing up the rear? The Jacksonville Jaguars. As Pugmire writes, “Things were bad enough, and then they had to send best player Maurice Jones-Drew to crutches after Sunday injury.”
