The second day of Ray Rice’s appeal hearing got underway Thursday in New York City.

The former Baltimore Ravens star, captured by a casino security camera knocking out his then-fiancee, is appealing his indefinite suspension by the league, which had originally issued him a two-game suspension but changed that after footage surfaced of him striking the woman, now his wife.

Rice and his wife, Janay, are slated to testify today.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly testified for more than two hours Wednesday and was cross-examined by NFL Players Assn. counsel Jeffrey Kessler, who worked on behalf of the union during the labor fight a few years ago.

Rice is arguing that the league punishing him twice for the same offense constitutes double jeopardy. Goodell has said the original punishment in July was based on information the league had at the time, including security footage of Rice dragging the unconscious woman out of the elevator, and the more severe penalty was based on the footage inside the elevator that surfaced in September.
