Pac-12 continues attack on DirecTV with new ad campaign

Share

The Pac-12 on Monday took another aggressive step in its stalemate with DirecTV by releasing an advertising campaign designed to encourage its fans to switch carriers.

The Pac-12 Network, in its second year, has failed to reach a distribution agreement with DirecTV.

At Pac-12 media day in July, Commissioner Larry Scott publicly encouraged DirectTV customers to switch to another provider.

The conference has now followed up with an ad campaign that illustrates to fans what they’re missing.

Here’s a sampling of the campaign, by school.

For example, the clip for Arizona shows a picture of two real wildcats with the tag “Wildcats on DirecTV.” Then it shows action of the football-playing Wildcats from Tucson with the caption, “Wildcats on Pac-12 Networks.”

“Trojans on DirecTV” features marching Roman soldiers contrasted with football Trojans on the Pac-12 Networks.

Stanford on DirectTV is a picture of “trees.” Get it?

It’s a clever campaign, for sure.

Whether it works is another story.
