Venus Williams dances her way to win over sister Serena

Venus Williams was dancing on the court during an exhibition victory in Lagos, Nigeria, over younger sister Serena, who wasn’t in nearly as good a mood.

The Southern Californian siblings are on a two-nation tour promoting women’s rights in Africa, where the elder Williams picked up a 6-4, 7-5 victory on Friday in 91-degree heat on the clay courts of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

“For me to get a win against Serena, it means 2013 is going to be a great year,” said Venus, who at one point took a moment between games to dance to “Oliver Twist” by Nigerian singer D’banj.

Venus, who for a year has been battling to deal with an energy-sapping autoimmune disease, won her first tournament since 2010 last month at the Luxemboug Open.

Serena, who at times pounded her racket and let out a few yells in frustration, wasn’t nearly as sharp as she was last week when she won the WTA Championships in Turkey.

“We’ve worked so hard this year; Venus has worked so hard,” Serena said. “We hope to keep this momentum going into next year.”

The next stop on their “Break the Mold” tour will be South Africa.

“We’re here to empower young girls and let them know that if you dare to dream, you can achieve any goal you want to,” Serena said during a news conference earlier in the week.
