UCLA Coach Jim Mora bans media for a day
UCLA football coach Jim Mora imposed a one-day media blackout, tossing the news media out of practice Wednesday morning after television camera crews wandered into restricted areas.
Mora pointed the finger at UCLA’s sports information department.
“We had some issues with our SID,” Mora said after practice.
There is a media ban on reporting anything that occurs in practice. Mora said practice would be reopened Thursday.
The incident was believed to have occurred just as practice was starting. Because of a new The Los Angeles Times’ policy, reporters from the paper do not attend practices at UCLA and USC. People present said that camera crews were setting up on the field, which angered Mora.
“Today’s practice was closed because we didn’t have proper security,” Mora said. “I’m not going to jeopardize what we’re doing as a football team because of the incompetence of some people.”
Sports information department employees were also tossed out of practice.
