Wednesday’s UCLA sound bites from practice

UCLA plays Virginia on Saturday.

We got some good stuff from offensive line coach Adrian Klemm today. Klemm, the former NFL lineman, is not only a massive human being, but also a good interview. It’s all in our preview of the offensive line, the third of our five part series. On Monday, we did the offensive backs, and on Tuesday, we did the secondary. On Thursday, we’ll do the defensive front seven, and on Friday, we’ll have receivers and special teams. Saturday, of course, is the season opener.

Until then, here are some quotes for your Thursday.

Head coach Jim Mora

On whether he has concern before Virginia: “Oh, I have a gazillion concerns. I don’t know that I have a biggest one, I just have a lot of them. I’m a little bit of a micromanager, as you might already know, so I worry about a lot of things.”

On running back by committee approach: “It’s something organic as the game goes on, when you see who is having a good day or who is maybe struggling, what types of runs we’re trying to feature against the defense we’re playing, and then we go with it that way. But there’s really no set in stone formula. It’s fluid.”

On freshman offensive lineman NaJee Toran: “He’s young and a little bit immature in some ways, but hopefully he can be consistent throughout the game, and if he gets there, he’s definitely going to bring something to the table.”

Redshirt senior linebacker Eric Kendricks

On the last time he was fully healthy for a game: “Hmm. It’s football, and I am a linebacker, so I don’t know if that question is valid. But I feel great now, and I can’t wait to play.”

On sophomore defensive lineman Kenny Clark: “He’s a beast. If he’s going to perform like he’s been practicing in spring ball and this preseason, he’s going to have a great year. You guys should hear his name a lot.”
