USC quarterback Ricky Town won’t be challenging Cody Kessler for a starting job this fall, but the freshman impressed the veteran during his first spring workout.

“He looked good,” Kessler, a fifth-year senior, said of Town after the Trojans’ first practice on Tuesday.

Kessler, like Town, graduated from high school early so he could enroll early and get a head start on his college football career.

“It kind of reminded me of myself when I was there,” Kessler said of observing Town. “I kind of know that feeling. ... He handled himself very well and made some plays and made some good throws.”

Town is one of five new players who enrolled in the spring semester.

Receiver Isaac Whitney, linebacker Cameron Smith and offensive linemen Chuma Edoga and Roy Hemsley are others.

“It didn’t look too big for them,” Coach Steve Sarkisian said, adding, “All in all, the first college practice for those five guys, I guess, was about as good as it could go.”
