Football: Another unbeaten week for Trinity League teams

Share

For the third consecutive week in high school football, Trinity League teams went unbeaten. That’s a 16-game winning streak. And two schools, St. John Bosco and Servite, didn’t even play this week.

Four schools are unbeaten _ Mater Dei (5-0), Orange Lutheran (5-0), JSerra (4-0) and St. John Bosco (4-0).

With one week to go before league play begins, the Trinity League schools are trying to fix any weaknesses that might be exposed when the grind of league play starts.

JSerra has been having some penalty issues, so that needs to be cleaned up. But Dante Pettis, a senior receiver-defensive back, continues to be a player to watch. He had an 80-yard touchdown catch on his team’s first play from scrimmage in a win over Dana Hills.

Half the teams have byes this coming week. The other three teams face challenging nonleague games. Servite (3-1) has to take on state power Concord De La Salle next Saturday night at Santa Ana Stadium. St. John Bosco will host City Section power Crenshaw on Friday night. JSerra faces a good Trabuco Hils team in a Friday road contest.

Then the real fun begins on Oct. 11. Santa Margarita (3-2) faces St. John Bosco. Mater Dei plays Servite at Angel Stadium. Orange Lutheran takes on JSerra.

Only three teams will be guaranteed Pac-5 Division playoff berths, though one of the two wild-card spots is also expected to go to the Trinity League.

Any way you look at it, the Trinity League is as good as it has ever been from top to bottom.
