Football: Koa Farmer almost pulls off a chest bump with Coach Kevin Rooney [Updated]

Share

It was a scene never before seen in the history of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame football.

After Koa Farmer made an interception on the third play of the game on Friday night against Encino Crespi, he came to the sideline and tried to give Coach Kevin Rooney, in his 34th season, a chest bump.

Rooney, who’s had two hip replacement surgeries, tried his best. They both left their feet. Rooney’s headphones went flying and the word is the chest bump was closer to a hip bump.

Assistant Coach Jeff Kraemer said, “When a 17-year-old knocks over a senior citizen and thousands cheer, you know it’s a special night.”

Said Rooney: “Koa was coming at me, and I tried to protect myself. We were a little excited.”

Farmer probably would have chosen defensive coordinator Joe McNab for his chest bump, but McNab tore his ACL in a scrimmage earlier this season when he got hit against Dominguez.

Notre Dame won over Crespi, 41-27.
