The name Justin Berfield may still conjure up the image of the bad-boy brother from "Malcolm in the Middle," but when it comes to buying and selling houses, the 23-year-old is decidedly an adult.

Berfield has listed his Calabasas home at $3,995,000. He bought it in 2006 for about $3.75 million from former MTV "Newlyweds" couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. He is planning to move to Malibu to be closer to the Venice-based film and TV companies that he formed in 2004, J2 Pictures and J2TV.

The Mediterranean he hopes to sell is in a guard-gated community and has its own gated driveway. The 6,483-square-foot house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms and some grown-up toys: a home theater, an infinity pool and spa, a wine cellar and a bar with indoor-outdoor access. The home has a custom soundproof room that was formerly used as a recording studio. There are travertine floors, high ceilings, four sun decks and views from the master bedroom suite.

Berfield co-starred on Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle" as Reese from 2000 to 2006. He started as a child actor appearing in national commercials and made his TV series debut when he costarred in "The Good Life" with Drew Carey.

Patte Gilbert at Ewing & Associates, Sotheby's International Realty, is the listing agent.

Golfer hopes to swing a good deal

What would you expect in 15-time PGA Tour-winner Fred Couples' backyard? The Montecito house he recently put on the market at $12.5 million has a putting green, of course.

The 11,000-square-foot, two-story Monterey Colonial was built in 1939 and sits on 5 acres with ocean and mountain views. The main house has nine bedrooms and 7 1/2 bathrooms. There is also a 2,300-square-foot guesthouse with three bedrooms and two baths and a kitchen.

The house has an arched front entry and hardwood floors throughout. There is a formal dining room with a beamed ceiling, and the master bedroom suite has a sitting area and office space. The formal study has French doors.

The property also has a tennis court, rose garden and pool.

Couples, 49, has relocated to the desert, near good golfing. His career high in victories came in 1992 when he won three tournaments, including the Masters, for earnings of more than $1.3 million. He was named PGA Tour player of the year for 1991 and 1992.

Sharon R. Fisher and Vickie G. Craig of Village Properties, Montecito, share the listing with Dan Encell of Prudential California Realty, Montecito.
