After South Dakota tornado, governor deploys National Guard

The governor of South Dakota deployed 100 members of the National Guard on Wednesday night after a tornado ripped through the small town of Wessington Springs. The Red Cross is also responding, Gov. Dennis Daugaard reported on his Twitter account. The tornado hit the town in Jerauld County just before 8 p.m., the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported. Some homes and businesses were severely damaged, but no major injuries had been reported as of 9:30 p.m., according to Daugaard.  An emergency shelter was set up for those displaced from their homes.  Power has been shut off in the town.
