A few months ago, diving legend Greg Louganis was talking about Troy Dumais’ quest to become the first American in their sport to qualify for five Olympic Games.
“I love Troy,” said Louganis, the four-time gold medalist. “It’s exciting to see athletes continue on longer than anyone expected.”
But now the chances of Dumais setting the record appear unlikely.
The 36-year-old Ventura native finished second in the synchronized 3-meter event — which figured to be his best opportunity — at the U.S. Olympic trials earlier this week.
That means Michael Hixon and Sam Dorman will represent the U.S. in synchro this summer.
