Newsletter: In the Loop: Disney announces plans for ‘It’s a Small World’ movie

Welcome to another edition of In the Loop, the Los Angeles Times’ theme park newsletter. I’m Funland theme park blogger Brady MacDonald, and this week we test-drive Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, complain about rising Disneyland ticket prices, hurtle through outer space on a virtual reality coaster and dread the soundtrack for the “It’s a Small World” movie.

Disneyland raises admission prices again and introduces “demand pricing” that will cost you $5 less on slow days and $20 more when it’s busy. As you might expect, fans aren’t thrilled.

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

I test drive Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters at Disney California Adventure and find the adorably cute cars to be as much fun to watch as they are to ride.

The new attraction replaces Luigi’s Flying Tires, a short-lived levitating bumper car ride plagued by poor reviews that closed a year ago.

Alton Towers

The Galactica virtual reality experience coming to Alton Towers in Staffordshire, England, combines the adrenaline rush of a flying roller coaster with the breathtaking viewpoint of a rocket ship hurtling through outer space.

SeaWorld

SeaWorld admits it sent employees to infiltrate the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization and spy on animal rights activists.

Disney announces plans to develop an “It’s a Small World” feature film based on the 50-year-old theme park attraction, attaching a pair of scriptwriters and a director to the project.
