Fireworks Issue on Ballot: In the wake of recent fires in Orange, San Diego and Los Angeles counties and because Brea is surrounded by dry hills, city officials want residents to advise them on whether fireworks should be banned in the city. City Council members agreed last week to place a fireworks ban proposal on the Nov. 5 ballot. The residents’ vote will be an advisory vote and is non-binding on city officials, Assistant City Manager Denise Ovrom said. The advisory vote will cost the city 35 cents per vote, which officials expect will total about $1,000, she said.
