$100,000 Fire Strikes Factory in Sun Valley
A fire early Tuesday morning caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to a Sun Valley plant that manufactures and paints Dumpsters, authorities said. The fire broke out about 5 a.m. at Consolidated Co. in the 880 block of Bradley Street, causing a metal building to collapse, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo. The cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.
Five fire companies battling toxic smoke caused by burning paint, paint residue and plastic Dumpster lids extinguished the blaze in 20 minutes, Acevedo said. There were no injuries. Several 55-gallon drums of a flammable liquid stored outside the building did not catch fire, Acevedo said.
