AND WAIT, THERE’S MORE: Creem magazine, the irreverent rock magazine that ceased publication earlier this year, is back in business again. The first issue, with John Cougar Mellencamp on the cover, should hit the racks this week. The new owner is Arnold Levitt, a former chief financial officer with Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, who also publishes several sports publications. Creem insiders say the new Creem will be more “refined,” offering more color art and less saucy copy, with an emphasis on mainstream rock instead of heavy-metal music. . . . Clifford Antone, owner of Austin’s legendary blues club, Antone’s, has formed his own blues label, called (in the grand tradition of Lone Star hyperbole) Antone’s. The company’s first batch of releases will include an EP by vocalist Angela Strehli, albums by Dr. John and Kim Wilson as well as an anthology of blues greats who have frequented the club over the years. . . . Speaking of the blues--Phast Phreddie & the Precisions, are calling it quits after nearly six years on the local R&B; scene. The band is scheduled to play its farewell date Thursday at the Club Lingerie, with a host of former band members and guest stars expected to attend. Asked how he would like the band to be remembered, Phast Phreddie quipped: “We were a band that swung in a town that wouldn’t swing.”
