Ram scout Charlie Hall suffered a heart attack at the team’s Cal State Fullerton training camp Friday and died later at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton. He was 62.

“A good guy,” Coach John Robinson said. “I knew him when he coached for John McKay at USC (1960-65). He was a good friend of everyone.”

Hall, whose home was in Midlothian, Va., is survived by his wife Joy and daughters Catherine and Jennifer.

Hall emerged from his room at the University Village dormitory at 10:30 Friday morning complaining of chest pains to another scout, Randy Tyson. Tyson told Jack Faulkner, administrator of football operations, who summoned paramedics from the Fullerton Fire Dept.

The paramedics arrived in about eight minutes and stabilized Hall, who was conscious. An ambulance took Hall to St. Jude about 10 minutes later.

The initial diagnosis was a mild heart attack, but Hall died at 12:30 p.m.

Hall had been with the Rams since 1981, after four years with the Seattle Seahawks, six years with a scouting combine and five years as director of player personnel for the Houston Oilers.

Born in Dallas, Hall played football at Whittier College and coached at Bellflower High School, Cerritos JC and USC.

Services are scheduled for 2:30 Tuesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittier. The family requested that donations be made to the Heart Fund.
