Saros Brig Wins Feature Race at Del Mar
Saros Brig, who ran for a $50,000 claiming price when she won her career debut at Hollywood Park a month ago, came back Friday at Del Mar to win the $50,000 California Thoroughbred Breeders’ Assn. Stakes by a half- length over Joey the Trip before a crowd of 15,520.
Saros Brig, paying $5.80 to win, gave Laffit Pincay his second feature race win in as many days here. Although Pincay was the leading rider at Del Mar last year, he had to wait until the last day of the season before he picked up his only stakes win, with Tasso in the Del Mar Futurity.
Saros Brig, bred and owned by Earl Scheib and trained by Joe Manzi, ran six furlongs in 1:11.0. Finishing third in the field of eight California-bred 2-year-old fillies was Windy Triple K., who was 1 1/2 lengths behind Joey the Trip.
