A branch of Cal State Hayward will be built on vacant state-owned land in Concord following approval of the project by trustees of the 19-school California State University system. “What the trustees finally recognized is that we do need a permanent, upper-division graduate campus in Contra Costa (County),” said Barry Brokaw, an aide to Sen. Daniel E. Boatwright (D-Concord). Jeffrey Stetson, spokesman for the trustees, said, however, that the decision to begin planning an auxiliary site does not necessarily ensure a full-fledged campus for the area. Stetson said that if funds are available, the Hayward adjunct near Mount Diablo State Park could be completed within six years.
