The San Francisco 49ers placed receiver Mike Wilson on injured reserve on Friday and signed former Chicago Bears receiver Ken Margerum, who played for 49ers Coach Bill Walsh at Stanford.

Wilson suffered a neck injury in Monday night’s loss in Washington and will miss the rest of the season. He was used sparingly this year, catching only 9 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Margerum, who graduated from Fountain Valley High School in 1977, is in his fifth NFL season. He was injured in his first game of the season with Chicago and was later released. Last year, he had 17 catches for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Super Bowl champions.

Margerum, a standout at Stanford before being selected by Chicago on the third round of 1981 draft, had his best season in his rookie year when he caught 39 passes for 584 yards. He missed the 1984 season after tearing a knee ligament in spring mini-camp.
