Orange County College Baseball : Trojans Rally to Beat Chapman

Brian Nichols hit a two-run single in the eighth inning, giving USC an 11-10 victory over Chapman College Wednesday on Dedeaux Field. Nichols, who had three hits, pitched the ninth inning to earn his second save. He was USC’s catcher the first eight innings.

Chapman led, 10-6, before USC’s Al Villasenor hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, making it 10-9.

Five of Chapman’s first eight runs were unearned, as USC (3-1) made three errors. In one inning, Chapman scored four runs on one hit, scoring after two walks and two errors.

Tim Quintanilla (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Ron Hubel (0-1) took the loss.

First baseman John Morin and center fielder Bryan Beals each had two hits and two runs batted in for Chapman (0-2).

Southern California College 5, Cal State Northridge 4--Mike Lomeli doubled in the 11th inning and scored when Northridge’s shortstop made an error on Kendal Kasper’s grounder, giving SCC a victory at home in its season opener.

SCC, which trailed, 4-1, after eight innings, scored three runs in the ninth to force extra innings. Josh Johnson, who pitched the 11th, was the winning pitcher.

Northridge is 1-1.
