San Diego Community College Signings : Palomar Safety Kaumeyer Signs to Attend Oregon
Thom Kaumeyer of Palomar College, winner of the Joe Roth Award as the outstanding community college player in San Diego County, will attend the University of Oregon.
Kaumeyer, a 6-foot 1-inch, 192-pound free safety, was also a first-team All-American selection by J.C. Grid-Wire and an all-state selection.
The University of New Mexico signed Palomar quarterback John Mitchell and Grossmont wide receiver Tony Kemp. Mitchell was ranked No. 1 in the nation in completions per game (21.7). He completed 195 passes in 332 attempts for 2,260 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Southwestern defensive back Bay Dean signed with Wyoming and San Diego Mesa defensive back David Brown will play at the University of the Pacific.
Grossmont’s Mark Montana, a 6-6 288-pound offensive tackle, will attend Arizona. Don Ruff, a 6-2, 242-pound defensive back from Grossmont, will play at Miami, Ohio. Ruff follows former Grossmont quarterback Terry Morris, who was the first community college player to play for the Redskins.
Grossmont’s Blair Holloway, a 6-3, 200-pound linebacker will play at Fresno State and his teammate Jay Taylor, a 5-11, 175-pound cornerback, will attend San Jose State.
