Developers were offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to vandals who felled almost 600 young trees on a two-mile greenbelt tract near the site of a planned sports complex in Sacramento. “We are totally baffled as to who it is or why they’re doing it,” said Maurice Read, spokesman for the Sacramento Sports Assn. “It’s obviously an organized thing and we think there’s more than one person doing it. It’s sickening.”
