When San Francisco throws the Golden Gate Bridge a 50th birthday party May 24, temporary lights will be used for a lighting ceremony because plans for permanent illumination for the span cannot be completed in time. Bridge district engineer Dan Mohn said temporary wooden lamp supports will be installed to augment the completed tower lighting. He blamed slowness in raising money for keeping the permanent lights from being installed as planned.
