Lightly raced Native Paster presented four-time Los Angeles County Fair riding champion Ron Hansen with his first winner of the 1987 session at Pomona’s Fairplex Park in the $32,240 Las Ninas Stakes for sophomore fillies Friday.

Irish Lord’s Miss lost its jockey, Luis Ortega, on the clubhouse turn in the Las Ninas. The horse, unhurt, ran ahead of the field during most of the race. Ortega, although momentarily shaken, managed to walk to the track ambulance after the race.

Meanwhile, Native Paster, making her third career start, led the remaining seven starters throughout as Windy Triple K., the 3-2 favorite, tracked her most of the trip. The latter was unable to gain significant ground and finished 1 1/2 lengths back.

The first of three weekends of racing during the fair begins today with the $50,000-added Phil D. Shepherd Stakes at 1 1/16 miles the featured event. The first two finishers from the Shepherd automatically receive invitations to the $100,000-guaranteed Pomona Invitational to be run Oct. 4. First post for today’s 12-race card is 12:30 p.m.
