Third-seeded Brad Gilbert defeated the 15-year-old crowd favorite, Michael Chang, 6-3, 6-4, in a semifinal of a $303,400 tournament Saturday at Scottsdale, Ariz.

In today’s final, Gilbert will play seventh-seeded Eliot Teltscher, a 7-6, 7-5 winner over fourth-seeded David Pate in the other semifinal.

Gilbert, 26, ranked 13th in the world, said his meeting with Chang “was the least enjoyable match I’ve ever played. If you lose, you lost to a 15-year-old. It definitely was not an easy match, and I didn’t play well.”

Chang, from Placentia, became the youngest player to reach the semifinals in a Grand Prix tournament by beating Jorge Lozano Friday.

The unranked Chang, a sophomore from Valencia High School, has not decided if he will turn pro.
