The State : Seaside Plan Gets Approval

Share

A compromise seaside development plan struck with the approval of environmentalists in Orange County has been approved by the state Coastal Commission. The decision clears the way for construction of four resort hotels interspersed among swanky shops and other commercial developments, two 18-hole golf courses and residential tracts on a 9,432-acre parcel between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. It is the last open stretch of seaside property in the county. Commission approval was the last major hurdle facing the $600-million Irvine Co. development plan that was scaled down to appease environmental groups.
