Gang Sweeps in Los Angeles

Share

Why is it we never learn from history? What we are witnessing with the gang wars, and other civil disturbances can be attributed to the failure of our society to deal equitably with minority people.

Slavery was the genesis and the residue of it; racism, separate schools, in fact separate societies perpetuate it.

Unless and until this nation intelligently addresses this issue, the problem will exacerbate.

We must provide a climate in our nation which instills a sense of pride and human dignity in all of our young people.

Gangs provide for their members a sense of belonging, pride and human dignity which have been denied to them all of their lives.

We can continue to ignore this problem only to our peril. A larger police presence is a mere Band-Aid on a cancerous growth.
