A 14-year-old boy was wounded Thursday night in a drive-by shooting that was apparently gang-related.

Police said the youth was standing on a street corner in the 4900 block of Logan Avenue with other people at 7:10 p.m. when the shooting occurred. A car with four males inside drove up, singled out the victim from the group and asked him, “What gang do you claim?” said police Sgt. Stephen Cross. The boy turned and ran but was shot twice by a gunman from inside the car, Cross said.

The youth, who is unidentified, was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with bullet wounds in the back and in right leg. He was listed in fair condition Thursday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police said the suspects’ vehicle was described by witnesses as a small white car, possibly a Volkswagen Rabbit or a Ford Escort.
