COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Big Eight Roundup : Missouri Can’t Keep Up With Houston in the Passing Lane, 31-7

James Dixon caught three touchdown passes and Houston routed Missouri, 31-7, Saturday at Columbia, Mo.

David Dacus and Andre Ware each threw two scoring passes for the Cougars (2-0), who set a record for the most passes attempted against Missouri by throwing 54 times, breaking the mark of 53 set by Air Force in 1960 and San Diego State in 1979.

A 51-yard punt return by Mecedric Calloway set up a 7-yard touchdown pass from Dacus to Brian Williams that gave Houston a 24-0 lead with 9:31 left in the first half. Calloway’s run gave Houston the football on the Tigers’ 26.

The Tigers (1-1) averted a shutout on a 21-yard run by Charles Quint after Harry Colon intercepted Ware’s pass with 3:32 left in the third quarter.

Houston got the touchdown back on Ware’s pass to Dixon that covered 35 yards with 12:17 left.

Baylor 35, Iowa State 0--Charles Perry scored three touchdowns and the Bears held the Cyclones without a first down until midway through the second quarter at Ames, Iowa.

Perry scored on runs of 1, 1 and 3 yards and Anthony Ray scored from the 5 and 1 late in game for Baylor (3-0).

Baylor limited Iowa State (1-1) to just 5 first downs and 104 total yards.
