Peters Scores 3 Touchdowns in Rancho Santiago’s Victory

Paul Peters caught 3 touchdown passes to lead Rancho Santiago College to a 36-22 Mission Conference victory over Riverside Saturday in front of about 1,000 in Santa Ana Stadium.

Peters, a freshman from Santa Ana Valley High School, had 4 catches for 108 yards. Rancho Santiago running back Mike Miscione also had an impressive night, gaining 169 yards and scoring a touchdown in 26 carries.

Rancho Santiago ran up a season-high 496 yards in total offense: 204 rushing and 292 passing. Eric Turner played the first half at quarterback for Rancho Santiago (5-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play). Scott Wood played the second half in a planned substitution and was 12 of 15 for 152 yards. Each had a touchdown pass.

Peters started the scoring on a 24-yard scoring pass from wide receiver Robert Brochno on a flea-flicker play. He also caught the 2-point conversion pass.

Riverside rallied to take the lead, 12-8, but Peters caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Turner in the second quarter to put the Dons ahead, 15-12.

Peters’ final score came on a 44-yard pass from Wood in the third quarter.
